Fluorescent and Histochemical Observation on the 1 Case of Chronic Paranasal Sinusitis

Abstract
In general, there are numerous patients with allergic diseases in the out patient clinics of the Dept. of ENT. There are some authors who classified the pathogenesis of the chronic paranasal sinusitis as allergic, inflammatory and mixed type. And they insisted that large numbers of the patients, who suffered from chronic paranasal sinusitis, are allergic type in its pathogenesis.
The authors observed a case of chronic maxillary sinusitis, whose mucosa of the maxillary sinus represented infiltration of numerous amounts of plasma cells and a few number of eosinophiles with marked degree of proliferation of vessels and severe degree of edematous changes on the surrounding tissues. In order to confirm its origin of allergy, the authors made some histochemical and fluorescent antigen and antibody techniques.
The authors observed the followings:
1. There are some numbers of cells, which represents positive secretory granules on the staining of Alcian Blue staining at pH 2.5, metachromatic staining with Toluidine Blue and Methyl Green-Pyronine staining.
2. There are large amounts of infiltrated cells showing dense pyroninophilia.
3. Most of observed plasma cells and lymphocytes are strongly positive to the reaction with fluorescent-conjugated anti-human Ig A rabbit serum.
4. Although reactivity of the mucosa are milder in degree than that of plasma cells or lymphocytes, the most strong reactivity of the mucosa is observed on the reaction with fluorescent-conjugated anti-human IgM rabbit serum.
